Well it has an in-built thermostat which controls the color of the lights based on the temperature of the water. The color of the light is White when its less than 32 and 33--41 blue and dark blue, 42--45 pink and violet when greater then 45 hot red.
The device powers itself up by running water and does not need any battery or any other power source.
